The New Faith Christian Academy basketball program concluded a stellar 2015-16 campaign by winning the Slam City Home Depot High School National Championship in Washington, D.C. earlier this month.
A 98-91 victory over Wesley Christian (KY) capped off a 27-5 season for the Titans in which the team claimed the Division I Independent Prep and Private School Association state championship with a 85-68 win over Handle It Prep Academy. Seniors Paul Sellers and Maleek Taylor combined for 43 points in the victory.
New Faith Christian Academy also claimed the National Christian School Athletic Association’s championship title.
Taylor earned All-State honors behind a 27 point-per-game scoring average, while Sellers averaged 22 points per game.
The Titans played all over the map this season including stops in Alabama, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, North Carolina, Arkansas and Ohio.
“For a team that was unrecognized, we did a lot of big things,” said head coach Sean Rutherford. “But in the midst of the season we stayed humble, played hard and completed every goal we had for the year. We have five seniors committing to college, and that’s all I can ask for. It was a great season, and I am more than proud of the boys.”
